I've gotten much better at Goal Achievement. The information from the magic hundred and half a dozen other courses I read last year has started to become second hand to me, rather than something I have to go back & read after forgetting. So I'll take a moment to write what has stood out to me the most since I first read the magic hundred months and months ago!
1. Having a clear picture (or more) of your goal already achieved is the easiest thing to do (takes no time, location, or resources, you can do it anywhere, around anyone, regardless of circumstances), however it is amazing how hard it seems at first. If U can just picture one of your goals being done each day, you have a goal that is achievable no matter what. I would recommend everyone do this. It can be a moving picture or still. it can be based on what you've written about, or just where ever your mind goes when you picture that goal.
2. Having a gatekeeper strategy seems hard at first. You may not want to alienate or judge people around you. It helps to have distractions like TV, radio, small talk, and such every now and then. I've seen that when I honestly decide that certain people in my life are not truly helping me achieve my goals, they naturally start to be less involved! EMPHASIS here! You don't have to force people out of your life, you just Honestly Admit that spending a lot of time, money, energy on that person is not helping you, and without quarrel they tend to naturally take up less of your time. Same thing with TV, radio, etc. just be honest about how much you spend on distractions. Do you spend time on it/them weekly? monthly? daily? more than once a day? more than an hour? more than 3 hours?
3. The most important thing I've learned from the magic hundred is the integration. Like a rubix cube, you can really mess up and fall behind on many parts of your life when you just focus on one. Dax has a matrix including Health, Family, Career, Finance, Adventure, and Education. I've setup my own labels, just because I'm a poet and I like to personalize & simplify things (Plan, Love, Learn, Cash, Grow, Earn).
I only focus on Learn, Love, and Earn daily, because Plan, Cash, and Grow are just sub-areas of Learn, Love, and Earn. Specifically:
1 Learn is studying, listening, talking, and practicing gaining a new skill;
2 Love is doing something that makes me or someone else feel good, successful, or just brings a smile to the face;
3 Earn is providing a product or service so valuable that it brings money and valuable things in return.
Those are the Big 3 Areas I focus on.
The sub-areas usually go along with those Big 3, but sometimes they don't get enough attention, so I keep them in mind:
4 Plan is writing goals, rechecking the goals, writing things to do, imagining, making sure activities are aligned and not conflicting. This is extremely beneficial to Love, Learn, and Earn goals, but I would call it a Love sub-area mainly, because it's about making sure you're activities are aligned to something that feels good, rather than just running around in the "rat race"
5 Grow is just a specific sub-area of Love that I use to specify Eating, Exercising, losing unwanted habits, and gaining newly desired habits.
6 Cash is a specific sub-area of Earn (and Plan) that I use to specify how much I have to earn, when I have to pay certain expenses, and by when I have to earn certain amounts of money. My cash goals break down into 1. owe (loans, credit, etc.) 2. give (charity, donations) 3. buy (new items not often purchased) 4. pay (necessities usually purchased like food, shelter, phone, etc.) 5. invest (not just stocks, but also saving up for a home, business, gift, or something to be bought at a later time) 6. earn (already mentioned, but I'm making a bigger effort to add Passive income to my list of earned income now - don't overlook that).
One more thing about Cash: Listing the Cash types in the above order (least to most important) helps me prioritize them faster. For example: I shouldn't do any Owe goals (take loan, use credit card) if I can't "afford" to do a Give. I shouldn't do a Give if I can't "afford" to Buy something I would like for myself. I shouldn't Buy if I can't "afford" to Pay regular bills (How will that nice new outfit look when you're sleeping outside with an eviction note?). I shouldn't Pay my bills if I can't afford to invest in my own future security (even if it's just $1 a week, invest something in your dreams, or else having a home and food and clothes leads to a dull existence) . And finally if I have a choice whether to invest or go earn some more, I try to earn first. Aligning the Cash goals in that order helps me feel better all of them, because I know they are working together, and most importantly, Earning has become something I enjoy more than ever now, both in terms of Why and How.
My results of Goal Achievement in the past year have been:
1. Breaking a life long habit of being chronically late, waking up late, and not getting a certain amount of sleep daily.
2. Switching from acceptable work that I felt good about, to earning in a way I feel GREAT about, while changing the perception of what's acceptable.
3. Continually learning, eating, exercising, and sleeping in a way that makes my body healthier every day.
