"Strong Man" conjures up all those old images from Saturday afternoon TV's "Strongest Man" (I'm showing my age now! ;-), of large men with big guts, dragging trucks across a line with a "rope" around their waist doesn't it? Well it does for me anyway ..... however, when I was asked if I wanted to have a go at strong man training, I cheerily said - yeah great, I'll give it a go !
At 5ft 2, you'd think that flipping 160kg army truck tyres was near on impossible, but with a bit of assistance and a lot of encouragement, the first flip happened. In that moment, I realised the power of strength you get from determintation. I've always been a bit of a stubborn cow and refuse to fail, so getting 12 flips out of these stumpy legs was a great achievement for me. Doing it again, this time up a little incline, was a bit harder ;-) The farmers walk with two 56lb weights was a real challenge, sledgehammering - a great frustration release ;-) and attempting a sprint whilst dragging a very large tyre is the funniest thing in the world. You *will* the power and speed down to your legs , but somehow those legs just won't go any faster.
The upshot of all this? Well, I'm going back for another go this week-end. All that fresh air and the encouragement of a like-minded individual is the best post work week lift you can get! I'd recommend it to anyone!!
